252000800 - Lifeguarding Recertification Course

To complete registration, you will need to upload a copy of your Lifeguarding Certification. To be eligible for the course, it must be current or expired by no more than 30 days.

The purpose of the American Red Cross Lifeguarding Recertification course is to give participants the opportunity to review the course knowledge and skills in order to maintain their Lifeguarding certification.

Eligibility criteria:
- Possess an American Red Cross Lifeguarding certification. Certification must be currently valid or expired by no more than 30 days*
a. You must upload a copy of your certification with your name and expiration date to complete the registration process
b. Can't locate your certification? Use Find My Certificate to download a copy
c. *If you are in your 30-day grace period, your certification is not considered valid and you are NOT able to work as a lifeguard.

Successfully complete the pre-course session, consisting of:
- Swim-Tread-Swim Sequence
a. Jump into 7 ft of water, fully submerge and resurface
b. Swim 150 yards using the front crawl, breaststroke or a combination of both. Swimming on the back or side is not permitted. Swim goggles are allowed.
c. Maintain position at the surface of the water for 2 minutes by treading water using only the legs.
d. Swim 50 yards using the front crawl, breaststroke or a combination of both.

- Timed Event (completed within 1 minute, 40 seconds):
a. Starting in the water, swim 20 yards. The face may be in or out of the water. Swim goggles are not allowed.
b. Surface dive (feet-first or head-first) to a depth of 7 to 10 feet to retrieve a 10-pound object
c. Return to the surface and swim 20 yards (returning to the starting point), holding the object at the surface with both hands and
keeping the face at or near the surface.
d. Exit the water without using a ladder or steps.

- Participants MUST attend all dates and times. No exceptions.
- You should receive a welcome email within one week of registering with information on the blended learning course. If you do not receive the email, please contact Leah Wicander (wicandel@verona.k12.wi.us).

*Refund Policy*
We have a no-refund policy. However, full refunds will be given if the VASD Aquatic department cancels a class. If space allows, participants may also transfer their registration to another date. In cases of illness or injury that prevent participant, an account credit may be given.
